Slow iMac – Here is how you can get a blazing fast performance

Blog, How-To

Do you have a slow iMac at home? Or purchased an old iMac from a friend but runs like a snail? I know how it feels. I bought my first iMac in 2015 and I was so excited. And It was very upsetting for me when I found that the iMac I bought has 3.1 GHz Core i5 processor, 8 GB Ram, 4K Retina Display but runs really really slow.

The exact model I bought was iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015). I found a great solution after I found it very slow. I believe it can solve your iMac issue

Slow iMac

as well. My iMac was slow because of the built-in 5,400 rpm 1TB HDD. I couldn’t believe Apple sold this crappy old Hard Disc to me! Very unfortunate.

Well, the solution was to replace the hard disc. But you can’t just replace that! because the hard disc was built-in and non-

removable! Then I planned to use an external SSD drive. And now while I’m writing this post my iMac is super fast. I do photo post-processing, video editing, web, and app development all at the same time. All credit goes to my SanDisk Extreme 500 External USB 3.0 SSD Storage (240 GB).

Just install the Mac Operating system to the external drive and go from there. Use the internal hard disc as your file storage. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

  1. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution. Excellent clear advice, thank you. I am going to follow it and have already order the Sandisk,

For those of us that are not computer gurus, can you advise on the steps to install the OS on the SanDisk for your method to work?

    many thanks,

    1. Thanks and glad to know you are going to give it a try. Installing MacOS on the SanDisk is fairly easy. Just follow regular installing method while you have the SanDisk connected. Make sure you backup your important files.

  2. May I simply say what a relief to find someone that genuinely
knows what they are discussing on the web. You certainly understand how to bring an issue to light and
make it important. More people must read this and understand this side of the story.
I was surprised you’re not more popular given that you definitely have the gift.

  3. I want to thank you for this superb piece of advice. We have struggled for over two years with this problem, but fixed it overnight by following this solution.
There are a few tips for inexperienced players involved – ie, in formatting the SSD correctly and then in transferring photos, email accounts, etc to the ‘new’ system – but all well within the grasp of the average user to figure out.
Thank you very much once again!

  4. I’m not that much of a online reader to be honest but your sites
really nice, keep it up! I’ll go ahead and bookmark your site
to come back later. All the best

  5. Thanks for any other wonderful article. The place else could anybody
get that type of info in such a perfect manner of writing?
I’ve a presentation subsequent week, and I’m at the search for such info.
